We would like to invest in a Solar System but we can’t afford it right now!

It is true that money is the number one and most important factor in any investment you make. It is also true that your return on investment is greater if you decide to pay for the system in cash but there are still many options available to you. In order to encourage home and business owners to invest in Solar Power, some Canadian banks offer low interest financing options that would still result in significant return on investment (and energy savings) for you. Plus, you have the chance to save the environment. Our team will work out the numbers with you to find the best financing option available to you. Rest assured that we will tell you if we feel going solar may not be the best option for you right now. After all we want happy clients!

I want to go Solar but I heard Solar Panels will damage my roof?

Professionally installed solar panels not only won’t damage your roof but will protect your roof from environmental factors such as sun, rain, etc.

My roof needs repair before I can install Solar panels.

If your roof is old and you are planning to repair it, this might be the best time to do so. Solar panels can offset some of your roof repair cost. You may also be able to receive more funding from the bank to cover some of the repair costs.

I heard Canadian winters can negatively affect Solar Production.

Believe it or not Solar Panels are more efficient at colder temperatures! What may affect solar production is the fact that the clouds may prevent Sun’s rays from reaching the solar panels. It is true that solar energy production varies throughout the year, however, solar panels in Canada are still very efficient and will provide you with a great return on investment.  Just think about it, Ontario is one of the world leaders in Solar power generation and countries such as Germany with significantly less number of sunny days throughout the year are at the forefront of solar power generation. The following graph is for Vancouver where there are generally more cloudy days than Ontario:

I heard Solar Panels are not a good investment in Ontario!

Ok, don’t just take our word for it. let’s do the math!

In Southern Ontario, you can expect an average of 1169 kWh/year per every kWh of solar panels installed! So, consider the following two scenarios:

If you participate in the current MicroFIT program: At the current MicroFIT rates you can expect an income between $3500-$5000 per year from a 10kWh system! Imagine you could make between $75,000 to $100,000 in 20 years! After which your system will still be efficient enough to fully generate all your electricity needs and/or significantly offset your energy bills resulting in more savings!

If you participate in Net-Metering Program: According to Ontario Energy Board (OED) report in 2009 the monthly electricity consumption of a typical residential customer was about 800 kWh/month. A 10-kW system has the capability to generate about 11690 KWh/year or 975 kWh/month. That is more than the average residential consumption in Ontario. You can now produce 100% of your electricity needs right from your roof. Plus, if you generate more than your consumption, you will send it back to the grid for a credit towards your future power bills!

I heard Solar Panels will negatively affect my property value!

Ok, we want you to be the judge! We’ll let you decide!

  • Would you pay more for a property that can generate revenues up to $100,000 in 20 years?
  • Would you pay more for a property that generates up to 100% of its own power requirements and sends the extra electricity to the grid for a credit towards future consumption?
  • Would you pay more for an off-grid cottage, RV, or Boat that is generating its own electricity without the need for a noisy generator?

What off-grid solutions do you offer?

A solar system mounted on the roof can produce some or most of the electricity consumed in the home. Most Canadian houses use between 5,000 kWh (very efficient) and 13,000 kWh (not very efficient) per year with the average power consumption being around 10,000 kWh. Off-Grid solar systems can reduce electrical consumption by the following amounts:

A company approached my Friend/Family with the Promise of free Solar Panels! Is it a Scam?

The short answer is, No. Some of the companies that offer free solar panels are legit businesses, however, there are a few things you should know. When it comes to Solar Power, there are three financing options available to Canadian clients.

  1. “Free” Solar Panels: Just remember that there is no such a thing as free launch! Solar Panels still cost the installation company thousands of dollars to purchase and install. In recent years some companies have been installing solar panels with no or little up-front cost. They then manage the MicroFIT contract with IESO and receive all the benefits. However, they will share a small portion of the monthly benefits with you and/or may offer to pay you a set amount in advance. In this case you don’t own the Solar panels. You are essentially leasing out your roof to the Solar company and receive a small portion of the benefits.

MicroFIT program is most profitable when clients chose to pay for the system in cash accumulating “Zero” in interest charges. The second best option for a good return on investment is taking advantage of low interest loans offered by Canadian Banks.

  1. Low Interest Loans: In our opinion, this is the best option for those who like to invest in their own solar project but don’t have the financial backup. In this case the return of investment can be slightly lower than paying for the system upfront, however, it can still be a great investment. Our team can help you work out the numbers and decide if this is the right option for you!
  2. Pay your own system: If you have some extra cash and are thinking about investing it in something that can give you a great return on investment and many other benefits for the years to come, then this is the option for you. This option will enable you to pay-off your initial investment in about 7 to 8 years and make net profits.
System Size (kW) Initial Investment ($) System Generates (kWh/20 yrs) Revenue Generated (20 Yrs) System Pays for Itself In (Years) Net Profit (CAD) ROI
2.5 7500 58000 17980 8 10480 6.99
4 12000 92800 28768 8 16768 6.99
10 25000 232000 67280 7 42280 8.46

*** All numbers are based on average cost for installation and average solar generation capacity in southern Ontario. Depending on your location and suitability of your property for solar projects the net profit can be higher or lower. But don’t worry! We will help you decide if your solar project will meet your expectations. We will present you with the facts and you will get to decide!

Should I sign up for free solar panels?

Well, it is up to you. But keep in mind that financing or paying cash for your project will provide you with the best return on investment.

Do you offer Free Solar Panels?

No! We want our clients to keep 100% of the benefits they earn from going solar (not just a small portion). However, we can help you finance your project. We only get paid for our time and expertise and we think that’s fair!

Solar Panels Are Ugly!

Well, everyone’s perception of beauty is different! We personally don’t think that Solar Panels are ugly, instead, We believe they are the symbol of one’s dedication to investing in something that is both a wise financial decision and a great way to save the environment. That said, Let us put it this way… We suggest that you start by evaluating the financial and environmental benefits that a solar system offers and we can help with the process. If these benefits outweigh the fact that Solar Panels may look ugly on your roof then going solar maybe something to consider.
